Connecting a Qscan barcode reader to a Mercury Controller

In situations where you need to use a Qscan barcode reader to access parking entrances, turnstiles, or gated facilities, you must connect a Qscan barcode reader to a Mercury controller. This ensures that the barcode reader can communicate with Security Center Synergis™ to manage access.

What you should know

  • This procedure is for system integrators or account administrators who install and configure barcode scanners.
  • This scenario describes how to connect a Qscan barcode reader to a Mercury EP 1502 controller.
Warning:
Do not look directly into the Qscan barcode reader or the laser may cause permanent vision damage.

Procedure

  1. Connect your Qscan barcode reader device to the Reader 1 connection block in the Mercury EP 1502 controller.

    Note:
    The Mercury controller boards can vary in color depending on when they were manufactured and purchased.

  2. Connect the Qscan barcode reader wires to the terminals on the Reader 1 connector block of the Mercury controller.
    Refer to the following table for the appropriate wire connections:
