Requesting role membership

To request role membership for yourself or another identity, you can use the Genetec ClearID™ self-service portal. By using a self-service portal with specified role owners, you can simplify the approval process and avoid delays from routing requests to the wrong approvers.

Before you begin

What you should know

  • The following identities can request role membership for themselves or their employees using the self-service web portal:
    • Employees
    • Managers
    • Supervisors
  • For each role membership request, ClearID records the:
    • Requester
    • Time
    • Reason
  • Each role membership request follows its own approval workflow.
  • After it is confirmed, the request is automatically assigned to the right approvers.
  • After the approval process, the requester gets an email notification with the decision.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the self-service portal
  2. Click Dashboard > My requests .
  3. Click New request.
  4. In the New request dialog, click Request role membership.
  5. In the Who section of the New role membership request dialog, choose who needs the role:

    Me
    The wizard automatically fills in your information.
    Someone else
    Search for or select an individual. Supervisors or team leaders can request role membership for team or department members.
  6. In the Which section, select the required role or roles.
  7. In the When section, enter the required dates and click Next.
    There is a 300-day maximum duration for role membership by default.
  8. In the Why section and click Next.
  9. Review the request summary.
    1. If changes are required, click Back and modify the settings.
    2. If the information is correct, click Request role.
    3. Click Finish.
The request is then processed according to your setup. It may be automatically approved, sent for approval, or, in some cases, cancelled or rejected (manually or automatically).

After you finish

Confirm whether the request was approved or rejected:
  • Check your email for a Role request approved email.
  • Check My requests in ClearID.
