How ClearID differs from traditional access control

Learn how Genetec ClearID™ simplifies and improves access control compared to traditional systems.

In traditional access control systems, security personnel are constantly involved to grant or deny access to physical locations:
  • Before granting access to someone, they must consult with room owners.
  • When the access is no longer required, people rarely return to request access removal.
  • Most sites don't track or record why access was required.

In ClearID, the self-service Web portal reduces effort and increases flexibility by using workflows when employees, managers, and owners of the different secure areas request and grant access.

Requests are processed as follows:
  1. Separate request and approval workflows are created for each request.

Each request includes the requester’s identity, time, reason, and audit details.

  2. Each request generates email notifications for the requester and for approvers.
  3. After confirmation, the request is automatically assigned to the right approvers.
  4. The employee manager, area owners, and other approvers receive an email requiring them to approve, deny, or modify the submitted request.
  5. The requester receives an email notifying them of the decision.
Note:
Access, visit, or identity requests can be time-bound, unlike traditional systems where access is often indefinite.

Employees can also request access to areas in other buildings or sites, even if those sites are managed by different instances of Synergis™. When traveling, the system can automatically provision credentials before arrival and revoke them once the trip ends, based on the request details.
